International scientific and practical conference “The issues of the strength of materials and structures in the field of transport construction” devoted to the 175th anniversary of Professor Belelyubsky’s birth
International scientific and practical conference «The issues of the strength of materials and structures in the field of transport construction» dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Professor Belelyubsky’s birth (1845-1922) was held on May 18–20 2021. Professor N.A. Belelyubsky was an author of more than 100 projects of unique bridges, talented teacher and scientist. A very interesting program was prepared for the participants: discussion of historical topics, prospects for the implementation of modern infrastructure projects for the construction of bridges and roads in St. Petersburg and other regions of the Russian Federation, various forms of experience exchange.
The events of the conference included a plenary session in the Assembly Hall, an opening of an exposition in the Central Museum of Railway Transport of the Russian Federation dedicated to the great scientist and teacher N.A. Belelyubsky, a tour of the collection of bridges and rare works in the PGUPS library, a technical tour of the Western High-Speed Diameter bridges, round tables.
Heads of the leading organizations developing and implementing the most significant projects and operating bridges of the Russian Federation took part in the conference. Representatives of Mostotrest, Institute Giprostroymost Saint Petersburg, Institute Stroyproekt, Nothern Capital Highway assured that the pace of transport construction in the Russian Federation will only increase but it cannot be achieved without the graduates of PGUPS — the first engineering transport university in Russia, where the classical school of bridge building was established.
Construction of new bridges and other infrastructure facilities of the global transport system is waiting for the PGUPS graduates. This is the conclusion reached by the participants of the international scientific and practical conference.
