Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University — the first transport university in Russia — was founded in 1809. And for two centuries, our University has remained one of the country’s leading universities in the field of transport and construction.

It was here, that many domestic scientific schools were established in the field of applied mechanics, hydraulics, hydraulic engineering, structural mechanics, design and construction of bridges, port facilities, and railways.

Currently, the University’s research activities demonstrate a wide scientific range. More than 30 scientific schools have been established here.

The structure of the University’s research complex includes research institutes, R&D centers, research laboratories. Research subdivisions and departments of PGUPS are one of the leading organizations in solving scientific and technical problems of railway transport, industrial and civil engineering, etc.

Traditionally, for many years, one of the University’s most significant partners is Russian Railways. Many of the country’s transport facilities were built under the guidance and projects of railway engineers who graduated PGUPS.

In 2014, a powerful team of PGUPS scientists and employees completed a large-scale project to develop special technical regulations for the design and construction of the Moscow-Kazan High-Speed Railway with speeds up to 400 km/h.
